In 1981, American television produced a short drama The Wave, based on a true story by Todd Strasser about a senior high school history teacher (William Ron Jones) who wanted to explain to his class the mechanisms of fascism, power and control. He created a powerful learning experience that nearly went out of control. Dennis Gansel (Napola) has adapted this original story and screenplay to fashion a German version of the story revolving around autocracy and power. Could Hitler and Nazism arise again? The students dismiss the idea, but the psychology of belonging and discipline soon change their mind. Starring Jurgen Vogel as the teacher who creates a learning experience neither he nor the students will soon forget, and Max Riemelt (Napola), who plays one of the few students who become concerned by what is happening in class. The climax at the end serves as a very contemporary view on the likely consequences of such an event. Specification
