I purchased this TV, thinking "A SONY, what could go wrong they are a good Brand". I paid $3799 for the 40inch, (okay priced). The Picture quality is quite good and bright. But, If you are interested in buying this TV, you should know that it makes a Very Terrible Audible Noise, from the back. If you have the volume set at 20, you are still able to hear it 5+ meters away. it is very irritating. I have had it sent to an Authorised Sony repairer. They said, after having a Sony Rep, come in to listen to it, that there is a humming noise(so they know it exists), but there is nothing wrong with the TV and the Noise is quite normal.

If you are to go into a Shop and listen to one of theses, it will Possibly sound fine because there is a lot of background noise and no wall to bounce it back in the shop(different Ambience). But wait till you get it home and sit it in a corner or against a wall. When you sit down to relax in front of it all you can hear(besides the Volume)is the humming noise that the tv is making. I used a projector before, It was bolted to the ceiling above my head, they emit quite a loud fan noise to keep the lamp cool, but i could tolerate that. But this Humming is absolutely terrible. If i was to go back and buy another TV again, I would avoid Sony. Try another brand. Plus there is no built in TV guide

Yeah, I had a 40" HDTV samsung that also had that problem. I hate to tell you this but the problem was to do with the power board in the back of the tv, the guy put a new board in now there's no noise whatsoever. Seeing that Both tvs are made in the same factory, it's possible they use the same, if not similar boards.

Apparently there is a software update available to fix the noise from your Sony. Contact your agent so the repair man/woman can come out and update the tv for you.
