Strengths: Excellent video quality and a good combination of manual and automatic controls

Weaknesses: Some specifications are not so good like the missing USB port

OK…so there are many things which are not perfect in the Sony HDR SR7. However, the one thing which is very good and works like a dream is the video quality and it was based on this single, most satisfying feature that I opted for this 60 GB HDD Camcorder. Other than the fab video quality, I am also quite impressed with the image quality which turned out to be MUCH better than what typical HDD camcorders provide.

Talking about the not-so-good features of the SR7, I noted that it was missing some basic things like a USB port which comes only on the bundled dock. Other than that, the touch screen was not the best I had seen till date and this was quite painstaking to learn how to use. Other camcorders are capable of even graver crimes so I kind of discounted the fact these features were missing and went on to enjoy what did work well with the SR7.

For the photo enthusiast, the SR7 also offered the fun of manual controls which allowed users to try out their photography skills. The zoom and other fundamental features of the camcorder are also quite respectable and though it does not really justify the price tag of the Sony SR7, it does not pinch too much either. So the next time you go out on a family vacation or on a solitary tour, do pick up the SR7 on the way…you are going to get some really good high definition footage which will make your trip very memorable.
