Full Review
My partner and I recently bought two Nokia 6110 navigators from Strathfield Communications(Australia). We chose Nokia because every Nokia phone we have owned has been outstandingly designed and very user-friendly. The 6110 Navigator must be the exception. The features are great, but that's about it. In a word - UNIMPRESSED.

GPS- The Australian maps are quite concise and offer good directions, but be careful of the A-GPS. The first two bills, on a AU$49 cap plan came in at AU$120-170 due to the phone accessing the Internet. Disabling the A-GPS function didn't seem to make any difference and we ended up asking Optus to disconnect all Internet services to the phones to stop the excessive WAP charges. At times the GPS refuses to respond (see below).

Music Player- OK. But the sound quality is pathetic without a headset.

Camera- Adequate. Just. Not great resolution or pic quality and a poorly designed and fiddly to open lens cover.

Case/Cover- Possibly the worst designed Nokia ever. Clumsy, tightly packed keypad. If you have chunky fingers, forget this phone. No variety of colours (really who cares). Fiddly and difficult to remove the cover (you need to pull until you feel like its about to break).

Last but certainly most important is the constant (every couple of days at least and a dozen times a day at worst) locking/freezing/crashing/exceptionaly slow response. Many inbuilt applications will freeze, lock or crash for no apparent reason, sometimes to the extent that the only way to fix the problem is to remove the battery while the phone is still on (even the keypad locks up sometimes). A few times when the phone has locked up I left it just to see if it would begin to respond again of it own accord, over 12 hours and nothing. For me these things may be major inconveniences but for someone relying on their phone for business this could be disastrous. I have removed all my music, pictures and documents thinking that I had loaded too much into the SD card. No better. As I type this I am running a software update (4th time) and if there is no improvement it goes back to the dealer tomorrow (so no phone for two to six weeks). There are obviously software, possibly hardware problems and I would chalk it up to a single dodgy or faulty unit but we bought two identical phones on the same network and plan and both have the same problems and after researching web reviews we aren't the only ones with these problems.

All up I may have rated this phone 50-60% but as a Nokia who normally make the best phones available this is a poor effort at best.

My brother and I both opted for this phone with the Optus $49 cap, after reading your review I think that this is where they must have got rid of the duds, my phone started freezing/locking up afeter about 3 weeks and lost roughly $1500 in work because of it, a week later my brothers phone started doing the same, the final insult was when halfway through a business call the phone shut off and wont reboot, tried swapping batteries etc no joy, contact Optus and have been told to take the phone and all associated paperwork to the nearest Optus shop which isn't convenient for me at all as I will be required to take time off work to drive the 200km each way to get there, asked if I could mail it in and was told that wouldn't be possible.

After having such a good run with Nokia I am now looking to other brands for reliability.

Sorry to hear about all those things happening to your phones. My nokia navigator works a dream. and i absolutely love it to death. James you shouldn't have been charged WAP fees on a cap, well i suppose that OPTUS for u. sorry i'm against optus and their level of service towards its customers. i'm with vodafone on the $49 cap and internet charges are charge as part of the cap bonus calls.

Update- the phone took 7 weeks to come back from repairs. It is somewhat better but still plays up periodically. The overcharge was removed but only after the telecommunications ombudsman was brought in to mediate. Made the mistake of buying a new cover for the phone and found it is extremely difficult to change the cover and impossible to change without voiding the warranty, as the phone must be unscrewed, totally opened up and stickers removed. Buy a phone and a gps separate, you'll get better quality and value for money. And don't connect anything with Optus, their customer service and support has become a joke in the last few years.

This is a frequent occurence for nokia phones manufactured in around the same time. I owned a Nokia N73. And you think you had problems? Sure, i didn't lose any business because of it, because I don't need a phone for my job, but the N73 is even worse than this. I have taken it back 4 times to get the same Hardware problem fixed. And like you say, the constant number of crashes. WOW.
I believe the crashes are associated with the S60 (I believe) operating system. My phone now resides in pieces. It was the smartest thing I ever did. Going backwards with Nokia works. Always have had reliable phones. Shame they've let it get to this stage

Hi James, I agree with you on the Nokia 6110. One of my friends has it and he seems to have a permanent frown on his face about it. Not only does the phone slow down on occassions, it tends to be very difficult to use as well. The N series phone with Windows Mobile however, are a whole new story and that makes it apparent that the time of S60 is up (or that it is meant to deal with only simple phone operations). Either ways, would not recommend the Nokia 6110 to anyone in a hurry! For more phones, take a look at www.myshopping.com.au/PT--31_Mobile_Phones
