Full Review
With the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 digital camera, you never need to worry about being too far away to shoot the picture. With an unbelievable 12x optical zoom (that’s not even including the digital zoom, folks), you can find clarity from great distances. While under normal circumstances this would cause a great deal of blur due to the unsteady hand, Panasonic’s MEGA Optical Image Stabilizer all but destroys such a risk entirely. The true optical system means no electronic processing and little quality degradation.

The Lumix DMC-FZ7 offers 6.0 megapixel resolution, resulting in crystal clear prints up to about 8x10”s without any flaws. Use the joystick control for a manual focus or exposure option (an upgraded option from previous versions), and count on a brighter electronic viewfinder option for darker photo ops. The improvements over the FZ5 (previous version) include this joystick as well as a larger 2.5-inch LCD view screen for improved viewing of the subject of your photo. However, one thing that Panasonic forgot about when improving the size of the screen was to improve the resolution – the resolution on the LCD of the FZ7 is actually lower than previous versions.

ISO speeds of 800 and 1600 have been added, to assist with taking pictures in low level lighting sans the flash (reducing red-eye and unnatural brightness to your images). The body has been redesigned as well, becoming more grip-friendly and smaller for ease of toting.

The DMC-FZ7 is recommended for entry-level use as a stepping stone to more complex and advanced designs. Its user friendly operation makes it an excellent choice for amateurs and newbies to photography, while still offering a few advanced features to fool around with. While the price tag is a bit steep for its section of the market, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 digital camera is definitely worth considering carefully.
