Full Review
With a 2-inch backlit LCD screen boasting a resolution of 220x176 pixels and 65,536 display colors, the Apple iPod Photo 60GB MP3 Player is a one-of-a-kind among MP3 players. Just like all other iPods of the past, the design includes a click wheel interface and the same docking, hold switch, and headphone input options. However, the bulk of this gadget in comparison to its ancestors of lesser abilities is noticeable. At ¾ of an inch thick and 6.4 ounces in weight, owners of an iPod shuffle or Nano will find this ultra-high capacity device quite bulky.
Still, with the added photo capabilities of the newest member of the iPod family and the outrageous amount of hard drive space (folks, 60GB equates to approximately 15,000 songs or 25,000 photos, so it’s nearly impossible to be dissatisfied with the selection), The iPod Photo (which is now simply referred to as the iPod) is an excellent purchase for your average consumer.
Unfortunately, in the purchase of this latest and greatest technology, you no longer receive the dock and A/V cable, accessories that were included with the original version of the iPod. Also, while the screen size is excellent for song information and type readout, it is small enough to have some people complaining about the quality of the photo viewing ability, stating that they are unable to see well or that the photos are not done justice.
Of course, the iPod is first and foremost a storage device, and with 60GB, no one can say it is lacking in this capacity. However, while it is a great value for most consumers, for those who are serious about their digital photography or who want to view stored images on the go, the iPod Photo is probably not the best portable storage device to consider.
