Full Review
For those who get lost easily, the TomTom GO 710 GPS receiver is an excellent purchase. Because it is easy to use and instructions are simple, little technical knowledge is required to operate the device properly. However, there are some issues to be aware of with the use of the device and its durability.
With a four-inch LCD screen, clear and accurate navigation voice, and detailed maps, using the TomTom makes it nearly impossible to lose your way, even in areas with few or no road signs and nowhere to stop and ask directions. It is especially handy for people who travel a lot to new places or salesmen on the road who don’t have time or room in their car for a lot of paper maps.
One issue you may find with the TomTom is the ease with which the connection between the unit itself and the cradle can be broken. Going over a few rough bumps in the road can knock the unit loose from the cradle, breaking the power connection. When this occurs, the GPS device automatically assumes you’ve switched off the car engine and turns itself off. However, there is a simple update that can be downloaded to solve this dilemma.
The cradle used for this version of the device is the same as the one used for the 510 and 910 (its predecessors), so if you are simply upgrading, there is no need to purchase a new cradle. The TomTom 710 is an excellent value, running under $650 for the unit. The device is highly recommended, being a higher quality product easier to use than many GPS receiver devices. Still, be sure to shop around, especially on the Internet, as prices vary based on demand for the product. Even for such a great product, you won’t want to overpay.
