Small business owners looking for an easy-to-use accounting package which works well on Mac can pick up First Edge by MYOB. The software is probably the easiest to get started with in this category and does not require a lot of technical expertise to set up. Reasonably priced, MYOB First Edge comes with a user manual which does not require a lot of effort to read and get started. You would need to rely largely on the manuals since there is no technical support available along with this software package.

As the name suggests, MYOB First Edge is most suited for the simple home-based business only. There are currently no additional modules available with this accounting package and lack of payroll and detailed billing does not make it suitable for businesses which have more than a couple of employees. The functions are really quite simple and cater to simple accounting at the most.

A closer look at MYOB First Edge will reveal that it also does not have any plug-ins to synchronize with Outlook or a document editing software. This seriously handicaps the software and makes it useless the minute the business begins to gain size. Pick up the MYOB First Edge for Mac only if you need a software to manage the simplest of accounts (why do you need a software when the accounts are simple…use Excel!) and if you need to manage it on a Mac!
