I had my previous wash. machine for 31 years & loved it & was loath to part with it. However, it was a big water gobbler! I needed a large, top loading water efficient machine that didn't take forever to complete a load & this was the only one that could be rebated under the Waterwise Scheme. Some of the reviews I had read made me feel a little uneasy about my choice particularly regarding lint collection & the powder deposits on darker clothes.
My next search was for a low sudsing, phosphate free washing liquid suitable for our grey water usage.I found HeroWash on a web site. Between these two products I am getting excellent results. Soft, clean washes without the need for fabric softeners.
So - the secret to those other problems - sort the clothes correctly, use the appropriate wash cycle, use a good low sudsing liquid detergent, pretreat the stains & don't overload the machine. Reduce the spin speed for anything you don't want spun almmost dry!
The huge range of wash selections are also easy to locate. I think this is a great washing machine!!

I have perservered with this machine for the last ten months. In that time, I have had F&P technicians visit 4 times. The first visit resulted in the drum being replaced as supposedly not all the draining holes had been punched out. Once the drum was replaced, my washing smelt clean however it was still covered in lint. Yes, F&P advised me to change washing powders - I now have laundry stock to rival a supermarket! Still the lint persisted. The local technician implied he didnt want to see me again after the second visit as he deemed there was nothing wrong with the machine. The super technicians from the city then became involved and replaced the program panel thus allowing for greater rinsing cycles, supposedly. Still the lint persisted! In desperation I contacted the Office of Fair Trading who advised to lodge complaint through initial purchaser. After all, I am entitled to get what I paid for. I am happy to report that I am now in the process of returning the AquaSmart and obtaining another machine (NO! not an AquaSmart!). Credit where credit is due ... through this long, arduous and frustrating period both Fisher Paykel and the Retailer have been super efficient and admirable in their customer service. I am so glad to read other complaints about this terrible machine! It is by far the worst washing machine I have ever used. Yes, not only does it leave residue on everything but it is also incredibly rough with the clothes. Do not purchase this machine! Posted by: 7-Aug-2008

| shocker!!! |

Agreed! This is the worst machine ever. I have only had it for one month and am already completely over it. It leaves big residue lines all over the clothes, not to mention the horrible lint over everything and the creasing. I have had a tech come out who changed a "program" on the wash options panel and then basically gave me lesson on how to wash clothes: sort everything completely (gone are the days of just wacking my laundry basket of clothes in the washer), water down my detergent with warm water, never wash in cold water, don't use the eco cycle or do an extra rinse (defeats the purpose of buying an "aquasmart" doesn't it??).
My bath towels are so full of lint that it drops over the bathroom floor everytime I use them, my husband's business shirts have lint all over them -- I have to painstakingly pick it off so that he can look respectible, my black work clothes look like i have been in a snow storm. I don't know what to do -- it seems that the F&P's advice is for the comsumer basically to work really, really hard to stop the problems by changing detergents, washing really small loads, doing extra rinses- instead of fixing the inherent problems with their product. Don't buy this machine, life is too short to bother taking so much time and effort to simply wash your clothes!!!!!! Posted by: 1-Sep-2008

I have an Aquasmart and it is a good washer, but I use the recommended detergent for front loaders, the results of this powder are shocking, especially on black it leaves white spotting all over the garments. What do users recommend detergent to use. I am thinking about using liquid detergent but have heard this is a no no as it clogs up the machine. Any help would be appreciated. Posted by: 29-Sep-2008

I have similar problems with linting and grey marks. Technician has replaced the circuit board and suggested a brand of powder, use only half or less of recommended dosage, still same problems. I will be pursuing a full refund of this large white useless piece of crap, to the bitter end. Posted by: 26-Oct-2008

There seems to be a lot of flak against Fisher & Paykel and what I want to know is that is it only one washing machine which is not good or is it a common problem with all Fisher & Paykel products? What is surprising is that there are so many models from this company so that means that someone is definitely buying them and if everyone is having such a bad experience then which other brand should one buy? Any tips on that direction would be helpful as I am planning to get a new washing machine as the LG one has driven me crazy. Posted by: 6-Nov-2008

I have now been promised a full refund on this machine, after 3 e-mail complaints to F&P customer care dept. All I have to do is wait for the F&P tech to show up with the cheque and take the useless piece of crap away so I can get another machine that works. Watch this space and keep complaining to F&P to rid the world of this machine. Posted by: 11-Nov-2008

i have had problems with marks on dark clothes but use a low suds liquid detergent for front loaders and it is okay now. i have trouble washing large things like blankets etc as they end up with a thick bundle around the bowl and sort of stretched over the agitator. this puts the machineout of balance and it makes a noise like it is going to blast out of the laundry. the machine jumps around and literally goes berserk. i would not buy it again but think i am stuck with this piece of junk. F&P fridges are even worse and i would never buy one again - just got rid of a 5 year old one that has had numerous thermostats, seals etc. greatest piece of junk i have ever mad the misfortune to buy. oh well my new fridge comes tomorrow and i hope it will be better - westinghouse this time cause i haave awestinghouse freezer that is problem free for quite a long time. after yet another morning spent washing and re-washing clothes in my Aquasmart I am heartened to hear that it is possible to get a refund and get rid of this useless machine. We use the recommended detergent and the recommended dose and the recommended cycle and water temperature, plus not using the Ecosmart option plus hitting the softener button for an extra rinse (even though we don't use softener. this is recommended in the booklet) and still clothes come out covered in residue and I have to rinse them again. this uses far more water than our old machine and doesn't do the same fast efficient job. A piece of crap. we will be pursuing a refund. Posted by: 15-Feb

Thanks guys for posting your reviews. I was considering purchasing this machine, however after reading your comments I will look elsewhere. The only consolation for you is satisfaction that from your comments people will no longer purchase inferior goods. Posted by: 26-Jul
