Brother MFC-490CW is an inkjet color multifunction printer. The MFC-490CW inkjet printer has wireless connectivity features. The design of Brother MFC-490CW is almost the similar as the previous models. It has a 15-sheet automatic document feeder and media card slots which supports MemoryStick and xD cards, CompactFlash and a PictBridge-capable USB port. This means you can directly print photos from your digital camera. It also supports Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity. Though the paper capacity is not too large, it is ideal for home users. It has separate trays for different sized media.

Brother MFC-490CW printer features quick access buttons which makes faxing, copying and scanning very easy. The printer has speed of 33 ppm for mono pages and 27 ppm for color printing. The text as well as the color print quality is moderate. Photo printing is comparatively faster than text printing. The scan quality is acceptable and the scanning process is relatively fast. The printer uses Brother Innobella ink and has a 4-Cartridge Ink System. The users only have to replace the cartridges that run out of ink. The printer comes with a widescreen color LCD display which helps to edit images and preview faxes. It also has easy to read help menus.

The printer does not support CD/ DVD printing and automatic duplexing. Using larger font sizes while printing texts result in loss of clarity. The printer works well with Windows Vista. It is also EPA Energy Star Compliant. The Brother MFC-490CW comes with a 1 year warranty. Though it is not fit for official use, the print quality is acceptable for home use.
