Even though the Garmin eTrex Legend GPS is not the best global positioning device available, it is a great product if you don’t want to shell out too much from your pocket. Driving, boating, hiking, biking or travelling, this WAAS enabled device from Garmin performs its functions with improved accuracy.
The Legend is compact and light in weight. It comes with a rubberized plastic grip cover and is water-proof. You can store up to 1000 waypoints with the 8MB internal memory. This 12-channel GPS has a small screen, which lacks colour though. The GPS is compatible with Garmin’s MapSource software.
If you wish to know every detail of a trip that you have taken, then the eTrex Legend GPS will be of great use. You can find out the average speed at which you have travelled, the distance travelled and the time spent. The Garmin eTrex Legend GPS comes with a Tracklog function that automatically creates a record of the route travelled and stores it in the form of points for later use.
A windfall in the Garmin eTrex Legend GPS is its poor reception. Tall trees, buildings and even clouds are enough to hinder quick satellite acquisition. This is not very inspiring considering that many customers will be hikers. There is no barometric altimeter or electronic compass on-board.
The eTrex Legend GPS is not among Garmin’s best, but it sports a reasonable price for the features it offers.
