Full Review
Magellan claims that the Triton 300 GPS is an easy to use next-generation handheld GPS. But when you dig deeper into the product, you will discover that its performance dampers Magellan’s claims.

The Magellan Triton 300 GPS is equipped with the Sirfstar III antenna that drastically increases its accuracy and reduces satellite acquisition time. But the operating system is unreliable and fails to deliver in many areas. Magellan has included VantagePoint in its navigator. This is a new, free map and content management application. You can use the Triton 300 anytime because it is water-proof. It is IPX-7 rated for immersion at 1m depth for up to 30 minutes.

The 2.2-inch (5.9 cm) QVGA color touch screen on the GPS is bright. However, the screen appears pretty dark without the use of the backlight. The pre-loaded maps are very basic and to make full use of the GPS, you need to buy additional maps. It is difficult to handle the buttons. The SD card slot and an electronic compass seem to be its only notable features. It is hard to understand the instructions and it will take quite some time before you understand all the functions. You need to have a good supply of batteries. Thanks to the dire battery life.

All in all, the Magellan Triton 300 is not the best GPS around and you might want to take a chance with something else, unless you are falling short of cash.
