Not worth the upgrade: Windows Vista

Strengths: Good Explorer features, better software support and a few security enhanced features. Expect less system crashes

Weaknesses: Resource hungry, some features are difficult to be located and no need to upgrade if you are already running XP

Much awaited and much talked about, the MS Windows Vista is finally here and technophiles like me just cannot wait to get my hands on it. I decide to pick up Ultimate instead of the Home version and am not disappointed with what I encounter. Just to kill the suspense, let me say that the Vista is a few miles ahead of Windows XP…but then it was expected to be. It is a much more stable operating system and is likely to result in less number of crashes.

What comes is a surprise is that many features touted as the USP of Vista are actually difficult to locate and are not all that great as one would expect them to be. Sure, the Explorer does impress with its RSS integration and the support for software is a remarkable improvement from the previous lot. However, as a simple home based user I got too confused with the number of versions available and had a tough time choosing which version I should use.

So the question you might have is that is there an intrinsic need to upgrade to Vista? Not really. Like all new softwares, this one is resource hungry and is likely to take a lot of valuable disk space if you are using an existing system. Apart from that, there are really no earth-shattering features in the OS which compels users to upgrade anyway.
