Strengths: Clean and sharp pictures, solid crystal design, 100Hz engine, onboard JPEG and MP3 playback, four HDMIs, good shadow details, backlit remote control
Weaknesses: Mediocre sound quality, occurrence of judders, skin tone is on the downside for certain film-based content, not so sharp pictures in the movie mode

Full Review
The Samsung PS58A650 58-inch plasma falls under the high-end flat-panel segment and is loaded with a whole lot of features that would woo any average viewer. You will definitely be blown away by the unique style and design of the Samsung PS58A650 at first glance. The makers have employed a "crystal design" styling with a touch of rich colour - a red tint that has a blown glass-like effect. This would appeal to eyes that are tired of looking at glossy black shades.

The Samsung PS58A650 has provisions for four HDMI ports for 24p 1080p video playback, a USB port, and red-backlit touch-sensitive keys on the bezel. The best thing about these is their location that enhances the classy look. The 100Hz frame rate-doubling function minimises motion blurring and smoothens onscreen action, thus making this flat panel a hit for gaming and watching sports programs. Samsung’s 1080p-compatible PC input paves way for crisp and stable texts with an accurate edge-to-edge screen formatting.

There are few limitations in this gadget and these are especially in the sound department. Samsung has built the invisible speakers in a down-firing angle, which projects the sound away from the ideal sweet spot. This design has resulted in a very average stereo imaging and SRS surround effects. Few judders were also visible in certain slow-pan scenes, and the skin tone is on the warmer side for certain movies.

The Samsung PS50A650 is aesthetically appealing but scores less in the A/V performance.
