Full Review
The second generation Apple iPod Touch 8GB MP3 player is the improved version of its predecessor and has more features than its first generation counterpart. The interesting part about this player is its pricing; it is reasonably priced considering the brand name. The design of the second generation Apple iPod Touch is very subtle and has a rounded design of the iPhone 3G with a chromed steel back.
The USP of this MP3 player is the bushel of features that fit into this gadget. These include a good quality music player, podcast support, video playback, a Safari Web browser, photo viewer, an e-mail reader, an integrated Wi-Fi iTunes music store, and a host of smaller utilities. You can also download and install many applications from the internet, thanks to the iTunes App Store, which can be accessed from your computer or from the iPod Touch.
Compared to most other touchscreen products, this player has features that react immediately. The iPod Touch supports playback for MP3, AAC, Audible, WAV, AIFF, and Apple Lossless formats. For an MP3 player with so many advantages, there are a few limitations which cause a dent in it reputation. This improved version still cannot stream Flash video or audio content and does not support WMA music files. The sound quality of the speakers included in this player is mediocre, and the audio performance is not on par with the players design. The most important limitation is the fact that iTunes 8 is a must for playback, without which an avid music buff would declare a player useless.
The verdict is that the second generation Apple iPod Touch has an improved design, lesser price tag, features that are ahead of its time and a few minor shortcomings.
