Canon has for long been synonymous with high quality imaging services and often considered the benchmark for others in the industry. Its late yet successful foray into compact cameras has won the patronage with even the most amateur of photographers.

The Ixus 870IS is the latest offering from the very successful range of pocket cameras from Canon. Its 10 megapixel resolution and compact design makes it an excellent point and shoot camera. Adding value to the performance of the camera is Canon’s image processing engine Digic 4 which provides amazing picture clarity.

However, the 4x zoom 28 mm wide angle lens steals the spotlight with its spotless performance. Also, the camera features full movie capture in the H.264 Codec which is a great improvement from the previous Motion JPEG format.

The model provides numerous modes with options for panoramas and underwater usage along with an optional casing. Further, it encompasses both fully automatic mode and also lets you adjust most of the parameters in manual shooting which could delight an advanced user.

The metal body has a pleasing design with Canon’s 3-inch Pure Colour LCD II which provides clear images even in bright daylight. Slow response speeds and short battery life are the only major drawbacks in the otherwise perfect package from Canon.
