Full Review
The Canon IXUS IXUS 100 IS digital camera, the latest addition to the IXUS line, is ready to impress with most of its worth mentioning functions. Its greatest plus and asset is its portability owing to its slim and compact form factor. It shares much common features with its sibling, the Canon IXUS 990 IS, including a 12.1-megapixel CCD sensor, optical image stabiliser and a 720p high-definition movie mode. However, its 3x zoom lens isn't much to get excited about these days. Very similar to the traditional versions, the Canon IXUS IXUS 100 IS digital camera uses a wheel for navigation with buttons for playback, movie and others.
While considering the image quality of the IXUS 100 IS, it resembles the IXUS 990 IS. Good image clarity with regard to sharpness and colour and abundant details in complex areas. But, mind you of the noise it creates while shooting, Canon could have checked into this functionality to stay ahead in the slim line series. To compensate for the small viewfinder, the 100 IS digital camera comes with 2.5-inch display.
The high-definition video recording is quite a feat for such a compact camera like IXUS 100 IS. To add to this is the inclusion of HDMI port for watching movies on your HDTV directly from the camera. But then, you have to get an HDMI cable of your own, it does not include one.
On the whole, the Canon IXUS IXUS 100 IS digital camera is a good trade off if you are social photographer.
