At the very first shot, the Nikon Coolpix L100 Digital SLR Camera appears like a digital SLR. But this 10 megapixel camera is the latest addition to Nikon’s L-series. It flaunts a 15x optical zoom to satisfy consumers who want an extended zoom.

The bulky appearance and the sober black finish are not very appealing. However, the Coolpix has an excellent build-quality and is very comfortable to hold. It is one of the most highly automated cameras that doesn’t let you control even the shutter-speed, aperture and ISO settings. The L100 is incorporated with the Vibration Reduction (VR) function to prevent camera-shake. An interesting feature of the Nikon Coolpix L100 is the Sport Continuous shooting that lets you capture fast motions in a relaxed manner. The Nikon Coolpix L100 can also be used to record videos.

On the downside, this mega zoom camera lacks the plethora of tools and options that normally feature in a bridge camera. Lots of issues need to be addressed. The L100 does not have a viewfinder, but the three-inch LCD monitor makes up for it while framing shots. The 230,000 dots resolution is fine, but not extraordinary. The camera accepts only AA batteries. The red-eye correction mode is not really impressive. The L100 is a JPEG camera and so you can’t shoot raw files.

Get a Coolpix L100 if you are looking at a highly automated, easy-to-use point-and-shoot model.
