Kaspersky has become synonymous with hardcore effective PC protection even to the point of causing frustration among advanced users. Its latest offering rides on the success of the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009 package and comes loaded with a host of features to satisfy the needs of personal use.

The package offers two protection modes – Automatic mode, which makes decisions in view of threats and is recommended for the average user, while the Interactive mode is available for advanced users. The firewall still remains as one of the most effective, offering the option of setting pre-defined rules for protection on the internet or local network.

The installation of KIS 2009 is tedious due to registry conflicts caused by previously installed anti-virus programs. The procedure is also time consuming requiring numerous restarts.

One of the highlights of the package is the Post Infected System Restore, which allows the user to restore the system to the last functioning point after a malware or virus attack. The performance is still satisfactory with minimum memory usage and significantly reduced file scanning time.

On the other hand, the package still remains one of the slowest in terms of boot speed and when uninstalled, leaves unwanted registry logs which may cause future conflict. Even with features like parental control, anti-phishing, anti-rootkit protection, virtual keyboard etc. the price seems to be too steep for the package and it depends heavily on the success of its predecessors.
