If you are looking for an entry-level dSLR that offers great picture quality, then I would suggest you to have a look at the Canon EOS 500D. The Canon EOS 500D digital SLR camera features a 15.1 megapixel CMOS sensor that is ideal for creating larger photo prints without compromising the photo quality. You can even choose to crop the images if you want to without the loss of quality. Just like most of the dSLRs, it helps you shoot high definition video, but I must tell you that the video quality is only slightly better that the basic. The poor video quality is the camera’s major disadvantage. With an HDMI connection, you can view images and videos on any HDTV.

The new DIGIC 4 processor of the camera results in faster processing speeds, smooth gradations and natural colour tones. The start-up time is only a split of a second and once you have shot your images you can review them instantly on the LCD. The high ISO speeds reduce the noise levels to great extent. I personally like the Canon’s in-built sensor cleaning mechanism, which prevents the accumulation of internal dust. Canon could have done a better job with the viewfinder. The viewfinder’s tiny focus points are very annoying since it difficult to know whether the subject is actually in focus. You need to completely rely on the focus lock indicator in the viewfinder.
