Full Review
The Sony DCR-DVD608E Camcorder is probably one of the greatest direct-to-DVD recorders available for the PAL system. With incredible zoom capabilities (40x optical and 2000x digital), you can get a great shot no matter how far away you are. Coupled with super SteadyShot technology and a super NightShot feature, your recorded images will come out nice and clear even under some of the worst conditions. This time, Sony has kept almost every aspect of making family memories last into account with its new design. This lightweight camera has just about any feature that you could want in recording special moments. While this Sony camcorder may seem a little pricey, it’s worth every penny, with a memory stick media slot and a USB 2.0 connection to allow you to instantly download your film and share it with others at the click of a mouse. Also, because the DCR-DVD60E records directly to 8-inch DVDs, there is no hassle in trying to rerecord your video to another device. Simply place the DVD in your PAL enabled DVD player and watch the show. The 2.5-inch color LCD readout on the Sony DCR is great for viewing and reviewing your recordings with an excellent picture at a reasonable size. As an added bonus, it also serves as a touch screen, making menu navigation a breeze. The only real complaint with the DCR camcorder is the still photo capability. While it is included, and up to 8,000 still images can be captured on a single DVD, the quality is ridiculous. The still camera portion of the camcorder is only .8 megapixels, an antiquated camera when so many digital cameras are up to 6 and 7 megapixels at relatively low prices. For the price you will pay for the device, you would expect more in this category. However, because this is an accessory rather than a main function, it does not weigh heavily on the value of the Sony DCR-DVD608E Camcorder.
