Full Review
It’s sort of depressing, really, that after such major success with former products and the heavy anticipation of the new release, the Sony Playstation 3 Game Console just doesn’t cut the mustard. Sure, when you look at some aspects of the technology, the unit is advanced and “cool”, accepting all sorts of media formats, but overall, the unit is a disappointment, especially to real gamers. Okay, so let’s consider the finer aspects of the Playstation 3 first, including its 1GB Ethernet and a preinstalled HDD (Hard Disk Drive) that allow for saving tons of gaming information. However, much of this is available through competitor products that rate higher on the gaming scale as well. It also incorporates input/output ports for NTSC, PAL, and other standard systems, meaning that it is compatible in almost any area of the world. You still have access to your Playstation and Playstation 2 gaming catalogs, and you can play all sorts of media, including DVD, CD, and even the new Blu-Ray discs. Look for the ability to use 1080 resolution HD output with the unit where available, as well. However, beyond the little “extras” offered with the Sony console, you’ll find little to be impressed about. The controller is below par, as are the graphics incorporated into the unit for true gamers. In side by side comparisons of games available on PS3 and the Microsoft Xbox 360, most gamers preferred the latter. Also, some of the most popular games on the market still are not available for Playstation 3, setting it back even further among the crowd. Probably the biggest complaint with the PS3 is its outrageous price. While new gaming systems are always overpriced upon release, this unit’s competitors laughed in the face of Playstation when the price was announced, nearly double anything else on the market. While Sony took over for years with their advanced technology and excellent gaming systems, the Sony Playstation 3 Game Console pales in comparison to the latest offerings by both Nintendo (Wii) and Microsoft (Xbox).

The controller situation can be debated. I think it comes down to personal preference. Personally i think the controller is sleek, light and very comfortable with all buttons easily accessible unlike previous competitors controllers. But thats just me.
The price thing would probably come down to the fact that it came out much later than the Xbox 360. So it has a little bit of catching up to do. PS2 was much the same when it came out. This would also be the case with the games. Give the console time to settle into the market. Posted by: 22-Aug-2008

I have both consoles[PS3 and 360 connected to 40 inch HD TV].Both consoles are very good.Of the two, I prefer the 360 ,as the graphics are usually a bit better,as is the exclusive titles selection. I think PS3 needs a bit of time, as it is a good product [Blu Ray especially]. Posted by: 25-Oct-2008

S.O.S H.E.L.P M.E. P.L.E.A.S.E. Is PS3 going to follow Wii in direction of virtual games?
If not Can I get my ps3 chipped to play wii games? to have best of both worlds?
Basically my partner wants some drum kit and I found Wii has heaps of virtual games that look pretty fun, but its so costly, espescially after still feeling the pinch from purchasing the ps3, so is it possible to make my ps3 take wii games and hey why not xbox too lol.. ???
I dont get the guys comment above how he says xbox better grafics- but ps3 has blue ray so shouldnt that shit all over the xbox? or does he mean ps3 hasnt brought all the games out yet? please help lil ole me Posted by: 5-Jan

Hey there, I don't think you're looking hard enough at all the virtual games PS3 also offers: www.myshopping.com.au/PR--306203_Guitar_Hero_World_Tour_Bundle_Game_Guitar_Playstation_3,www.myshopping.com.au/PR--285805_SingStar_2_Bundle_Playstation_3,www.myshopping.com.au/PR--302168_Sing_Star_Bundle_Playstation_3 for example... In terms of the drum kit, it comes with the whole set: www.myshopping.com.au/PR--306203_Guitar_Hero_World_Tour_Bundle_Game_Guitar_Playstation_3But I have seen the drum kit sold separately in stores. I wouldn't try modding your ps3 because that will void your warranty and lastly, the graphics for ps3 and xbox are the same at the moment, but as time goes by and developers start to understand the ps3 more, it will far surpass the xbox graphics and capabilities. It already has with games like Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, God of War 3, Uncharted Drakes Fortune etc Hope that helped! Posted by: 7-Jan
