Strengths: QWERTY, large display and Windows Mobile 6

Weaknesses: Expensive and no real WOW features

Large and expensive, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 has some really stylish features which make it a good phone to buy. The extra large screen is good enough to make you forget that you are using a phone and the comfortable keypad can have you typing away messages without any pain. The XPERIA X1 sells on the experience it offers and is easily one of the expensive phones in this smart phone category. The X1 gives you near-desktop experience with its Windows Mobile 6 operating system as well.

The price tag continues to hound the XPERIA X1 and that is mostly due to the fact that very few carriers support it at the moment. Sony Ericsson might have more trouble in their hand considering the overall size of the phone. So apart from a really easy user experience, there is little reason to splurge on the XPERIA X1. In fact, it might not be long before this phone goes off the shelves purely for low user acceptance.

Don’t get me wrong...being a new phone, there is no way one can determine its success. For all you know Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 might turn into the next thing after the iPhone. It is just that majority of the users feel that just size does not impress and one also needs to back it up by some new features which users have not yet experienced in other phones. On that front (of new features) the XPERIA fails to delight and I feel that is where its undoing lies.
