Slim and smart…the Optio M40 is very easy to carry

Strengths: Compact size, good image quality and very good pricing

Weaknesses: No 'wow' features, pretty much like the previous Optio model

The Pentax Optio is yet another sleek camera which comes equipped with standard camera features and sadly does not thrill us with any new gimmicks. The M40 is silver, small and quite sleek to use but it does not have any new features which can give it an added advantage. The zoom stands at 3x and the 8 megapixel is also nothing out of the ordinary.

The one thing which does make the M40 a good recommendation is the price of the product which is AFFORDABLE and is likely to appeal to many first time digital camera buyres. Apart from that the compact size of the m40 is also a plus point so don’t get taken aback with my ranting about the general nature of the camera not being good! Just wish that there were some new features like a large LCD, some touch screen features (even if I didn’t use them!) and lesser noise.

The Optio is good but not something I would buy if I have already tried my hand with a completely automatic digital camera. Some bits of manual controls in the M40 would have been nice but its not there so no point thinking about it. Designed as a perfect holiday camera which does not require a lot of maintenance, the Pentax Optio M40 is OK and can be recommended for amateur photographers.
