The Canon EOS 50D comes after a number of other DSLR cameras from Canon and though the design and usability has remarkable improvements, it might not be the most obvious upgrade to opt for. The EOS 50D specs are well designed and it is scalable enough for you to add lenses and filters. However, there are no major surprises or upgrades in the camera’s basic set up and that can be a bit disappointing. What I liked about the EOS 50D is how comfortably you can hold the camera while taking a shot and the absence of a long snout (sorry if it sounds a bit disparaging) makes the camera easier to manoeuvre.

The on-board strength of 15+ mega pixel is excellent which explains the price tag of the EOS 50D as well. The point is that if you are willing to spend so much on the EOS 50D, there is no reason not to consider a higher end camera which has more image manipulation features than the 50D. Anyways, that is a personal choice issue and not reasons enough to ignore the EOS 50D. Coming to the most important aspect of the camera, the image quality is pretty good which re-enforces my belief in Canon as a leading photo-equipment company.

So should you buy the Canon EOS 50D? The answer is YES, if it is your first Digital SLR camera. If you are looking for an upgrade from an existing DSLR, then you should try to pick up a higher range camera as it is quite likely that you would be looking for manual control options which is not the high point with the Canon EOS 50D. With this clearly established premise, it becomes easier to decide if the Canon EOS 50D is really for you or not.
