We purchased this about 12 months ago because we liked the blade design, much like the units you would see at a commercial smoothee store. It certainly is very efficient at blending but is still very prone for the contents of frozen smoothies to stick to the sides, needing you to water it down or keep pushing it down.
Ours has also had a bearing failure on the bowl after 18 months of light use (probably our fault from sticking the whole blending bowl in the sink).
Its OK. Better than the average blender but not quite up to the marketing hype.

i have had one of these for two years and about one year ago there was a brown powder on the top of the motor housing that we thought was just spice or something. today i noticed the bearing has been worn out and been leaking metal and grease into the jug. not good. this has been going on a for a year now. we didnt notice, because it wasnt leaking.
this 550 was two hundred dollars. making a dollar is more important than our health. DONT BUY.disgusted and very angry.

My blender is 17 months old and the motor control unit has burnt out which cuts the unit off after 2 seconds of action. It will cost > $120 to repair.
Poor quality for a $200 food mixer!!
