Strengths: Stylish new user interface with enhanced security and Web 2.0 features

Weaknesses: Expensive and quite resource hungry

Windows Vista launch was much awaited by consumers and industry experts and though XP works just fine (and is now a mature operating system) Vista still looks like an interesting piece of software to check out. The most obvious change in Windows Vista is the user interface. The user interface looks quite good and racy and gives another well known computer manufacturer (I will not mention the name but am sure you can guess who I am talking about) a run for its money. However, the ‘me-too’ look is apparent and becomes a sour point with some users.

Windows Vista is not XP re-enhanced as some people claim. The features are quite different, are more web-friendly and provide for a better Web 2.0 experience for users. However, the application (like all other new launches of software products) continues to be resource hungry and is unlikely to run successfully on an old PC which has less than 1.5 GB RAM. Windows Vista Home Premium is likely to make its debut via new PCs and not as re-installed OS in an older PC.

Windows Vista Home Premium does not come cheap and this might be a deterrent for users. The software does have very good security features which is a required component more so in the case of home users but you need to think a couple of times before you invest money into the OS. Windows Vista Home Premium is likely to be an excellent product in a few months time as more and more users test it out.
