Strengths: Sharp pictures, image stabilizing and low-light shooting options. Well priced as well.

Weaknesses: Not meant for the serious professional photographer

Sony presents an excellent DVD Camcorder which comes with both video and still option and thought the resolution of the still images are on the higher side, the video output is of pretty good quality. The camera provides Sony’s propriety SteadyShot Image stabilization feature which can come in handy with new users as well as shooting when on the move. The camera is most comfortable to use and fits in very snugly in the palm of the hand.


Though this model of the DVD Camcorder has most of the standard features a user is likely to look for in a camcorder, buyers are more likely to be drawn to the reasonable (and somewhat realistic) price of the camera than the illustrious feature list. The DCR DVD 705 has a couple of aces up its sleeve. For starters, it has another propriety technology of Sony, the Super NightShot Plus which allows it to capture images and video in low lit situations. The second ace is the above-average size of the viewfinder (two inches more than the standard camcorders) which makes shooting and playback an absolutely delightful.

There are also a number of manual controls within the camera which you give you ample opportunity to play around with the settings and shoot as you like. The automatic options however, are a lifesaver for those who are not too keen to experiment. The camera is perfect for amateurs and home video makers and acts as the ideal companion during holidays. Like all cameras of this range, the only you need to keep in mind that this is not an ideal piece of equipment for the professional photographer.
