Digital SLR cameras allow you to optimize your photography skills to a large extent and Olympus can easily be considered as a front runner in this category of cameras. With this thought in mind, I am quite excited to check out the Olympus E500 which has some state-of-the-art SLR features while offering the advantages of a digital camera. The E series from Olympus is aimed at a market which does not comprise of professional photographers but quality is still in high demand.

One of the first things you notice when checking out the E500 is that the camera design is quite compact and still does not compromise in any features. the camera also manages to be quite light in weight. As the wise men say, good things come in small packages…the Olympus E500 offers some excellent camera features such as a high quality zoom, excellent image quality and an 8.0 mega pixel strength which is as good as a professional manual camera.

There are more good things to be said about the E500. The LCD screen is a comfortable-sized and has fairly good resolution to boot. Furthermore, you can use many filters with the camera which you might already have had from before. The sizes of the images are also within manageable limits and though the camera may lag for some time during the preview stage, it is to be expected in any camera in this category. Thus, the E500 is a good camera for amateurs but cannot be used by professionals as it is not fully automatic.
