Strengths: 5 megapixel camera, excellent camera features

Weaknesses: Other features are average, memory is not sufficient

The Samsung U900 has the distinction of being a quad band phone which is good for those who are globetrotters but means little else otherwise. Recently launched, the U900 is caters to the mid-range users who are looking for a reasonably priced, mid-range solution for a mobile phone. For reasons best known to them, Samsung has tried to position this phone by naming it Soul. On the features front, there is little to connect the branding with the phone and seems like a wasted effort really.

Not very light, the Samsung U900 comes with limited on-board memory of 128MB only. What the Soul does have an excellent 5 megapixel camera which is really the surprise in the package. The camera has all the necessary functions one needs for some good shots and this really gives users reasons to buy the U900. The 3G functions are limited by the fact that there is only one camera with the phone and video conferencing is not a possibility.

Samsung Soul comes at a time when mobile phones are being launched every month so it is likely to get lost in the crowd. The slider function is standard as is the overall functionality and quality of the phone. the U900 is not a bad buy considering the size and camera capabilities, but it does not excite users enough to hold on to this phone for very long. The U900 needs memory enhancement and some more user-friendly features to take this phone to the top ten list of 2008!
