How to copy music files (iTunes) from PC to My Passport Essential

Category: Question about Computer Components - Western Digital
Posted by: 23-Sep-2008

Can anyone explain how to copy music files from a PC (OS XP) to a My Passport Essential Portable Hard Drive (320g)?

I bought the hard drive to copy what's on my ipod (incase I ever lost my ipod) as I was told that they were easy & simple to use HOWEVER there are no instructions included with the drive and the 'USER MANUAL' that's on their website is no help.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there, the reason this proccess might not be mentioned in the user manual because it is really simple! You would need two USB drive to connect the hard disk to the laptop/desktop and once the hard disk is detected as a seperate drive on your My Computer, all you would need to do is drag and drop the files you want to copy. As you are already using XP, it is likely to prompt you at every step. If you do not have a USB cable, you can pick one right here at www.myshopping.com.au/PT--207_Computer_Cables_Connectors_USB__fs_1644_e__?Find=USB+cable+

Got a new computer and want to move your entire iTunes library? Starting with iTunes 7 there is a new backup feature that will archive your entire library to CD or DVD, including ratings and playcounts, which can be moved to another computer. If you are interested in moving your library using this method click, here.

If you do not have access to a CD or DVD burner then there is another option if you own an iPod. Because your iPod contains a high-capacity hard drive, you can use it to move all your music from your old computer to the new one
