LG 50" Plasma 50PB2DR - Has anyone had problems with Hard Drive failing/requiring repair?

We purchased this TV May 2007 and problems started June 2008 . Format HDD message came up, resulting in us loosing all recorded material. First repair (away 3 weeks) in June, next repair last week and tonight the same problem yet again. Has anyone had this problem with this particular model / LG TV ?

Hi Denize, yes there have been some comments about the HD on a couple of online blogs but overall the 50PB2DR is an excellent Plasma television which has got many takers thanks to its size and overall price tag. If you are looking for a large screen plasma and are not very thrilled with this LG model, do check online reviews before buying it. With so many consumers online, it is an excellent place to get unbiased reviews. I have a problem with the hard drive on my 50" LG Plasma TV. Model 50PT85-2B. The hard drive is on Initializing all the time and will not record any programmes. We bought it in November 2007. I cannot get any joy from LG as I did not buy extended warrenty. They now want Ł399 to extend. The service department have told me I can download some Firmware from their Service Webb site. Easier said than done. It does not recognise the Model or Serial no. Cannot find anyone to repair it in yellow pages.

I have the same type of problem with the LG 50PB4D plasma TV. For no apparent reason it has twice required that the DVR HDD be intialized/formatted in order to watch or record programs. I had to delete all the recorded programs for this. Not good.
