Whirlpool AWM 8143 front loader - a dud

I had used a Hoover toploader for 20 years and only changed to the Whirlpool AWM 8143 front loader after the kids had left home. I thought a more economical, water saving machine was sensible. It cost $AUD 1000, warranty was 2 years and at 2 years 6 months it died. The Whirlpool service centre were not sure exactly what the flashing F6 error code meant - could be the drum, could be the timer.... and quoted the cost of repairs at $597 [the drum] but there was no guarantee it would fix the problem. For $600 it is possible to buy a new machine - if it only lasts 2 - 3 years it still works out cheaper than this experience. The exact same experience for another user of this machine is on the 'epinion' site. My opinion? don't touch it - dud machine, dud service.
